El Ridiculoso is a no holds barred party hosted by Dr Pokoly and Bassdroid featuring modern house music. The name originates from a trip Dr Pokoly took to Miami for the Winter Music Conference (WMC). While philosophizing with his taxi driver, the Doctor was floored when the taxi driver mentioned the horrid South Beach traffic due to the conference was “ridiculoso”. There’s no better place for a party to be born than WMC.
Its current home is Fogasház, located on Akácfa utca 51, in the 7th district of Budapest. It always starts late and goes till late. The venue oozes a no frills but in your face attitude. The building went unattended for many years. The façade may be crumbling, the paint peeling, the holes gouged by wartime bullets still unfilled, but the courtyard is packed and hopping. It is a mix of hip bar and café, beer garden, music venue and cultural center. Fogasház barely advertise their presence, hiding behind a discreet sign and grubby doorway.
The party and venue attract a wide range of people which adds to the party’s mystique. You’ll find headbangers, house heads, punks, drunks, techno snobs and the musically illiterate all turn into true party people while Dr Pokoly and Bassdroid and their esteemed guests orchestrate El Ridiculoso from behind the mixing desk.
